My Writing
On this page, you'll likely find more information than you want or need about my work. There are a synopsis for and first chapter of Immigrant Moon, a novel about an Irish immigrant with a leprechaun guardian. There are a synopsis for and excerpt from Hex, set in Pennsylvania Dutch Country and involving German mythology (kind of like Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow). Also, to your left is my bibliography. Impressive, I know. One of these days, I'll have more to put there, and I will rejoice!
Immigrant Moon
Some Irishmen have luck. Others have guardian angels. Sean O’Rahilly has a leprechaun.
It’s 1869, and Sean has lost it all—his homeland, his family, his faith. When he set out across the Atlantic, America had seemed full of promise. Now, the young man who thought he’d live in luxury toils under the Utah sun. In days, his job with the railroad will be done, and Sean has no idea where to go… until he meets Paddy, one of many leprechauns sent to watch over Ireland’s children in America. To do this, the leprechauns depend on their fairy magic. In a land where the Irish are scorned and despised, denied work and shelter, and left to starve and die, such magic has the power to save lives. But someone is stealing that magic.
Some Chinese girls have fortune. Others have guardian ancestors. Fa Su Ni has a dragon.
When a tip from a Chinese railroad worker sends Sean to San Francisco, he finds he’s not the only immigrant with foreign magic. Su Ni came to America to escape China’s poverty, yet when Sean finds her, her situation is worse than ever before. Like many dragons in Chinatown, Su Ni’s protector, Wu Jiang, is losing his magic. Without the dragons’ magic, the Chinese immigrants face the same peril as Sean’s people do.
Two mortals, two myths, and two cultures. Sean and Su Ni must unite if they are to stop this theft of magic. Once, the leprechaun and dragon protected them in America. Now, Sean and Su Ni must be the protectors, and find the magic, if their people are to thrive.
