About

The first thing you should know about me is that I hate writing bios about myself. I never know what to say! But I can hardly have a website without an “About” page, so here I go. (Please don’t laugh at me.)

I wear many hats in life. I am a wife, a mother, a writer, an actress, and a village idiot. I love drawing and painting, and spent time in graphic design school, though I never graduated. Once I learned that one of my assignments would be to design a book cover, I spent so much time imagining my own stories in book form that I realized I needed to get serious about this lifelong writing obssession. Eight years later, here I am. (Which is not, by the way, the reason I never graduated art school. But that’s off-topic…which is another thing you should know about me. I go off on tangents a lot.)

Though I’ve been writing books since I was old enough to read them, Hex is the fourth novel I’ve written since I decided to take getting published seriously. It takes place in what is known as Pensylvania Dutch or German country. So many historical fantasy novels take place in Britain. I love these, don’t get me wrong, but why not set a historical fantasy in America? So that’s what I did.

Other things you might like to know: I was born in Phoenix, Arizona, but have lived near Cincinnati, Ohio since I was five. I converted to Catholicism when I was seventeen. I have worked as a waitress, a telemarketer, a library page, and a renaissance festival employee. I am a terrible dancer. I like to sing. And I strongly disagree with the slogan that says there is no wrong way to eat a Reece’s.
